Small World

Last night we attended the weekly Wednesday evening "meet & greet" pitch-in in the marina lobby. De Anne and I, always crafty where food is involved, arrived early and commandeered a table for six. We had already been asked by Ken and Marie on Tempest to hold a couple seats for them so we had two seats open. A couple we had not yet met, Dave and Barb on Lafalot, asked if they could join us. We chatted with them for a few minutes until Ken and Marie arrived.

It turned out our table mates knew each other from several ports along the east coast! In fact there were several interesting and cryptic comments about running into each other. The buffet table opened before we could question them in greater depth, and of course the call of free food took priority. We must remember to question more closely another time.

Dave introduced me to Burmuda ginger beer (non-alcholic) mixed with Burmuda black rum (80 proof). Quite a novel and tasty mix! Ken had interesting stories about his job with the start-up of the Bloomberg financial system and since we used it in the Treasurer's Office and I was familar with it we had a "computer geek" conversation. It was a fun evening.

Marie (tall and athletic) made plans with De Anne to walk to Pigeon Key today. De Anne was quite happy to have a walking partner who - unlike me - would not slow her down. Sadly, Marie hurt her back leaping off her boat for a late night dog walk and so this mornings' power walk to Pigeon Key got postponed.
